Dos Santos Engineering provides field advisory services to industrial clients who need qualified engineering eyes on site — for inspections, assessments, condition evaluations, and expert technical guidance during plant operations, maintenance outages, or construction activities.
DSE's field advisory role is strictly observational and advisory. Our engineers visit client facilities to observe conditions, assess equipment or structures, and provide expert recommendations based on what they see. We do not perform hands-on labor, operate equipment, or carry out physical work of any kind. All site visits are conducted in compliance with the client's own safety protocols and all applicable regulations. Our role on site is the same as in the office — to observe, analyze, and advise.
What Field Advisory Services Include
Conveyor System Inspections
DSE engineers visit client facilities to observe conveyor system operation, assess structural and mechanical condition, identify performance issues, and provide written findings and recommendations. Inspections may cover conveyor structure and supports, belt condition and tracking, take-up systems, drive and transfer arrangements, chute work, and related components. A written report with findings and recommendations is provided following each inspection.
Structural Assessments
On-site assessment of industrial structures — conveyor galleries, transfer towers, support platforms, monorails, hoppers, and related steel structures — to evaluate condition, identify deficiencies, and develop recommendations for repair, reinforcement, or replacement. Assessments are supported by engineering analysis conducted in the office and documented in a formal report.
Rigging and Lift Oversight Advisory
During complex industrial lift operations, DSE engineers may serve in an advisory capacity on site — observing rigging setup and lift execution, providing real-time technical guidance to the client's rigging crew, and confirming that operations are proceeding in accordance with the engineered lift plan. DSE does not direct, supervise, or perform rigging operations; our engineers observe and advise while the client's qualified riggers execute the work.
Maintenance Outage Advisory Support
DSE engineers are available to provide on-site advisory support during planned maintenance outages at power plants, bulk terminals, and industrial facilities. This may include observing equipment condition during outage exposure, advising on field modifications or repairs as conditions are revealed, and reviewing field measurements or conditions against engineering expectations.
Commissioning Observation
For new conveyor systems, rigging installations, or structural modifications engineered by DSE, our engineers may be available to observe initial commissioning and startup, confirm that installation is consistent with the engineering design, and advise on any adjustments needed based on observed performance.
Expert Witness Site Visits
In connection with DSE's expert witness services, our engineers may conduct site visits to observe and document conditions relevant to litigation or dispute resolution involving conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or industrial structures.
How Field Advisory Engagements Work
Most field advisory engagements begin with office-based engineering work — a review of available drawings and records, development of an inspection or assessment protocol, and preparation of any relevant analysis. The site visit is then conducted based on that preparation, with findings documented and followed up with a written report or formal engineering deliverable.
For clients with ongoing needs, DSE is available for periodic scheduled visits — for example, annual inspections of high-angle conveyor systems or recurring advisory support during planned outage seasons.

A Note on Safety
DSE takes site safety seriously. Our engineers arrive at client facilities prepared to comply fully with all site safety requirements — including required personal protective equipment, site orientation and badging procedures, and any safety briefings the client requires. We follow client-established protocols without exception and adapt to the specific requirements of each facility we visit.
Because DSE's engineers observe and advise rather than perform physical work, our site presence does not introduce additional operational risk. Our role is to provide engineering expertise, not to participate in physical operations.
