Field Advisory Service
Field Service Advisory Improves High Angle Conveyor Performance
Challenge: Provide field engineering services to inspect the Kimberly-Clark Sandwich Belt high angle conveyor system, evaluate operating performance and develop recommendations to improve reliability, maintenance and future capacity.
Solution: DS Engineering performed a comprehensive field inspection and operation conditions and provided engineering recommendations.
During a scheduled mill shutdown, DSI Engineering conducted a complete operational assessment of the Kimberly-Clark Sandwich Belt High Angle Conveyor. The inspection confirmed the system was operating smoothly after more than 11 years of service while identifying opportunities to improve material loading, belt performance, drive reliability, and maintenance practices. Recommendations included upgraded belting, optimized belt cleaning, improved loading alignment, and continued evaluation of the drive system to maximize long-term performance.
Operators had observed:
- Material loading slightly off-center
- Edge damage on the top belt
- Gear reducer failures following a drive upgrade
- Poor splice life
- Opportunity to improve belt cleaning performance
Recommendations included:
- Adjust loading chute deflectors to better center the material flow
- Upgrade from 2-ply to engineered 3-ply HAC belting for improved splice performance
- Evaluate drive reducer mounting and coordinate with Dodge for corrective action
- Replace tool-steel belt scrapers with urethane torsion-tensioned scrapers
- Optimize scraper positioning to eliminate material buildup
This project demonstrates DSI’s commitment to supporting customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their conveying systems. By combining field experience with practical engineering expertise, we help facilities improve reliability, optimize maintenance practices, and keep critical material handling equipment operating at peak performance for years to come.
